Root Cause Solutions for Menstrual Health Challenges
Period pain may be common, but it certainly is not normal.
Hey! I’m Ally, Founder of Your Settled Space, and I spent over a year suffering from debilitating period pain that used to land me in hospital every single month. And the words I heard at the end of each appointment? “It’s normal for women to experience pain with their periods. All you can do is take the birth control pill, or take pain killers”.
But something (I call it common sense) was telling me that the pain was in fact not normal.
After hearing the same conclusion from healthcare professionals over and over again, and with no person, scan, or test being able to show the cause of my pain, I decided it was time to take matters into my own hands. This marked the beginning of my journey in women’s health.
The most important question you can ask: “why?”
I didn’t want a band-aid solution for my period pain; I wanted to know why I had it in the first place. And that one-word question became the driving force behind what would soon become my career.
Following months of exploratory research, I made the decision to get the copper intrauterine device (IUD) removed. Most findings pointed towards the copper coil as being the root cause of my pain, despite the timeline of my coil insertion and onset of period pain not matching up at all; in fact, the pain only began 3 years into having the copper coil in place!
No words can explain the freedom I felt when the period following my IUD removal arrived with no pain.
No curling up in a ball on the floor, no tears, no hospital trip. Completely pain-free.
This was all the motivation I needed to change course in life and shift my focus onto ensuring that no woman is left to find their own solutions for menstrual health problems, and no woman is left asking “why?” without a valid explanation.
But I knew that I was one of the lucky ones - my pain had been caused by something reversible, something with a quick fix. If I truly wanted to help women navigate their menstrual health with more ease, I needed to study the intricacies of the endocrine system.
In 2023, I went to study Women’s Hormone Health at The Institute for Menstrual Health where I was taught by doctors, nutritionists, renowned health coaches and fertility specialists alike.
I graduated in 2024 as a Certified Women’s Health Practitioner, achieving 100% in every exam.
Since then, I’ve helped women with a variety of hormone health challenges, including:
Period pain
Endometriosis
Getting a missing period back
Hormonal acne
Menstrual migraines
Navigating perimenopause
Irregular cycles and missing periods
PCOS
Coming off birth control but wanting to avoid pregnancy
…and much more!
Make avoidable period pain a thing of the past
I hope to be a source of knowledge, accountability, and crucial menstrual health education for women. While doctors play the vital role of diagnosing conditions, running tests and scans and prescribing medication, I help my clients understand what’s going on with their hormones, and make the lifestyle and dietary changes that target the root cause of their problem.
The mission: make avoidable period problems a thing of the past, for all women, everywhere.
This can only come from widely accessible education on menstrual health, ongoing funding for research into women’s health, and awareness of how diet and lifestyle impacts our hormones. And this is where my work at Your Settled Space begins.
